jrsc and compression

Hey Guys, long time no see. I`m back and building a jrsc`d b18c. I`m going to go ahead and do sleeves, pistons, and rods while the motor is being pieced together. My question is, what compression are you guys running? I don`t want to run a ton of boost, maybe 8lbs, so I`m thinking 9:1 might be a bit low. With a built block, I think I would be fine around 10:1. I might run a 60 shot on it down the road, too. Any thoughts on this?

Why are you planning on running such low boost with all the upgrades? Lowering your compression will definetely help if you plan on running higher boost (10+ PSI), but are you sure it's really worth your time and money to only boost 8PSI?

I`m going to road race it which is a lot of abuse (Yes, the cooling sytstem is in check). Plus, I`d rather spend a few extra bucks and do everything correct the 1st time. I don`t want to tear the block apart a few months down the road.

I'm about to have my car back. And I've fully built the motor, (rods, pistons, valves, etc) It is a B18C1 in a 96 GSR 4 door. It's been resleeved with full ductile iron sleeves and bored 3mm over, which makes the discplacement 1933cc. The compression ratio that I went with is 10:1. I did this for a lot of various reasons. For one, boosting a large amount (13-16psi) with a JRSC creates a LOT of heat. So I plan on boosting a moderate amount (9-12psi) but I'm keeping the compression the same as stock so that I will not loose any power. There are others on this board that have lowered thier compression and tried to boost higher with not so good results. Also increasing the discplacement lowers the boost pressure "seen" by the motor. So with the setup that I'm going to have (CRV + 3.8) I will not see the typical 13 or more psi. I will probably be around 10-11.
Anyway, I don't know for sure if it will kick ass or not till I get it on the dyno and see what kind of numbers it puts down. I should have some numbers by the end of this month, or early next month. So you then can see if the higher compression works or not, without being the guinee pig yourself. smile

Sounds like you and I have a simillar setup. My block is at Golden Eagle as we speak so we`ll see who`s the Guniea Pig =)

Well man I wish you luck. I really hope it goes well with your motor... esp since you have a similar setup as mine! biggrin

What kinda HP numbers are you thinkin you'll get?? Also are you boring your's out big?
